ACE SCREENERS - BRITISH MADE

Inlet Screens

Haigh Environmental supplies high-quality, British-made inlet screens and screenings handling equipment, used in wastewater treatment plants to filter out solid wastes.
Manufactured at our base in Ross-on-Wye, HEC supplies many of the UK’s water companies with our range of screens, installing more than 1500 to date across the UK, Europe, the USA and New Zealand.
Alongside our core ACE Screener and ACE Bandscreen products, we also offer a comprehensive range of ancillary equipment, from grit removal to steel gantries, support structures and control systems.
Our complete screening systems can serve up to 30,000 population equivalent and be scaled according to site needs.

Why go for an inlet screen?

Mechanical screening protects your downstream biological and mechanical processes from blockages and excessive wear by removing plastics and non-digestible materials e.g. rags and other debris. It also improves biological treatments processes.
Without a screen, non-automated processes rapidly block up and need regular operator intervention, driving up costs and maintenance requirements for a given site.
We can help you at every stage of the process, from initial site survey and design, product development and visualisation, through to installation and ongoing maintenance.

ACE Screeners®

Haigh Environmental’s ACE Screener® is a combined brush screen and screenings handling unit, which handles maximum flows of up to 80 litres/second.

An ACE Screener comprises three main elements configured to suit site conditions:

  • Screening unit with ACE pump
  • LS305-4VR Liquid Separator station
  • Control Panel

Installation flexibility is a key attribute, allowing project designers to use an ACE Screener® in virtually any situation.

Zero wash water required - saving money and water.
Low volume screenings, with maximum organic material put back into the flow.
High screenings capture – 64% @ 6.mm perforations, the highest in its class.
Handles flows of up to 80 litres per second.
Easy, in-situ maintenance and servicing.
Low energy requirement and carbon footprint.
Produces clean, dry, compacted screenings.

ACE Bandscreen

Haigh Environmental’s ACE Bandscreen is a standalone bandscreen that handles maximum flows of up to 200 litres/second.
The ACE Bandscreen can be combined with either the Haigh Lisep Package or Haigh Compactor to produce dry, compact screenings.
Zero wash water required - saving money and water.
Standard width screens – easy to fit.
Low volume screenings, with maximum organic material put back into the flow.
Handles flows of up to 200 litres per second.
High capture ratio – 79% @ 6.mm perforations.
Easy, in-situ maintenance and servicing, with no chains or brushes.
Low energy requirement and carbon footprint.

The site saw a reduction in operating costs and no additional dilution of inflow to the main works, thanks to the ACE Screener

Equipment
490 ACE Screener + Manual Grit Removal + LS305 Lisep/Lipactor Station.

Llanfyrnach Sewage Treatment Works required an Inlet Screen to screen all sewage and limit the flow to treatment to 2.65 l/sec. The existing Inlet area was at the top of the site with no vehicular access and an unreliable wash water system, where flows needed to be raised by a metre to allow the site to operate on a gravity basis.

Haigh installed a 490 ACE screener with an inlet box to process all of the incoming flows and storm returns, with manual grit removal and a LS305 Lisep/Lipactor station on top of a gantry, discharging into a Haigh Carriskip at ground level.

An automated downstream flow control and flume arrangement were then mounted directly onto the downstream side of the prefabricated inlet, incorporating a weir arrangement to limit the F.F.T. to 2.65 l/sec, and direct the remainder of the flow to storm. A simplex control panel was also provided to control the screening system, while lighting columns were installed on the gantry for operator safety during dark periods. Given the restricted access to the site, the Haigh Environmental team was able to split the gantry and the equipment into three sections for ease of installation, which took less than three days.

The site saw a reduction in operating costs and no additional dilution of inflow to the main works, thanks to the ACE Screener system’s zero wash water requirement. The 64% screenings capture ratio significantly improved the process efficiency of the main works, with screenings pumped to the most suitable discharge point at a remote distance from the channels. This ACE Screener design has allowed for quick and easy maintenance in-situ, despite the small site size.

Haigh Environmental supplies high-quality, British-made inlet screens and screenings handling equipment, used in wastewater treatment plants to filter out solid wastes.

Alongside our core ACE Screener and ACE Bandscreen products, we also offer a comprehensive range of ancillary equipment, from grit removal to steel gantries, support structures and control systems.

Haigh Screens are 6mm 2D as standard in line with WIMES, with the option of 5mm or 3mm where process requirements might need additional solids removals, for example prior to membrane treatment systems.

The Haigh ACE Screener range can process flowrates upto 80 l/sec on a Duty only Basis, with the ACE Bandscreen dealing process flow rates upto 200 l/sec on a Duty only Basis. This corresponds to sites serving populations up to 15,000. Haigh screens can be configured in a modular fashion to address sites with higher flows.

All Haigh screens have the option of an integrated bypass, storm flow management and coarse screening options

Both screens require zero wash water, as water is taken directly into the unit from the channel for washing purposes. We provide the cleanest screenings in the industry, while saving energy and overall treatment capacity, especially in small works.

The ACE Screen range would typically require a power requirement of 25 -32 AMP 3 Phase and Neutral supply, but has a very low real-time installed power consumption due to the operating control sequence that minimises the running time of each system. The drives on the sreening systems are typically operating for a small percentage of the day, dependent on flows and loads

All Haigh Screens are all built at the Haigh Group Ltd headquarters in Ross-on-Wye, UK.

The Haigh Screening systems are well-positioned to help water companies and contractors deliver on AMP8 targets around sustainability, standardisation and more:

  • Environmentally friendly – deploying a Haigh Screening System means that more  rags, plastics, wet wipes etc are removed from the wastewater streams, while using Zero Wash Water, as well as reducing landfill demands and carbon emissions.
  • Standardisation – HEC have creating standardised ranges of products to suit a broad range of site specifics for flows, loads and site constraints. This approach increases efficiencies, replicability and reduces costs and waste.
  • Innovation – The Haigh Screen range is constantly under review and looking for improvements and requirements to bring to the industry.  Our philosophy is to deliver our products, support them, listen and learn from our customers, then improve and innovate.
  • Cost-effective – with standard templated designs for across our product range for channel mounted or flat concrete or structural plinth prefabricated inlets, we can configure our offering to meet site and client requirements.

These can vary depending on the exact project specification and complexity,  however in general, the Screener range has a 3-4 month lead time.

Basic checks to prevent undue noise and movement are required for everyday maintenance. Routine monthly and annual maintenance activity are detailed in the manual.

There are over 1500 Haigh screens installed with strong current demand.
