Communications Manager

Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire – with hybrid working as standard

Remuneration: £42,000 – 45,000, depending on experience

Working together with utility companies, contractors and communities, we are leveraging the expertise of our experienced team to offer practical, cost-effective and standardised alternatives to septic tanks and conventional chemical dosing treatment options for off-mains, rural wastewater treatment.

About this role

This key new position will be responsible for developing our strategic communications and marketing plan, delivering strong brand awareness, and embedding Haigh Environmental’s recent rebrand across the business.

You will be part of a small, highly capable sales and client development team engaging with the UK’s water companies, small businesses, hotels, farms and individual homeowners, to help them find the best wastewater solution for them and the environment.

You will be responsible for Haigh Environmental’s external outputs, including press engagement, managing social media channels, drafting web copy, commissioning external branding and web contractors, working with sales colleagues to develop external marketing campaigns, and occasionally assisting at industry events.

This role would be a perfect for someone who has worked as a Communications Officer or similar for at least 3 years and is now looking for their next step up.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Prior experience working as a Communications/Marketing Officer or similar, for a minimum of 3 years
  • Excellent written and spoken English – able to draft compelling copy without the use of AI
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to juggle a broad range of tasks and projects, and work independently
  • Strategic thinker, with ability to see the bigger picture and advise colleagues on a range of topics
  • Excellent social media skills, including familiarity with analytics and how to drive engagement on different platforms 
  • Initiative and drive to learn quickly and deliver small projects
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and work well as part of a small team
  • Strong media/external affairs judgement

Desirable

  • Prior experience working in the water/utilities industry, environmental communications or similar related field
  • Understanding of major marketing channels and how to leverage these for exposure and coverage
  • Canva skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Media engagement, including drafting media statements, responding to press enquiries and proactively pitching.
  • Creating content for social media channels, and managing Haigh Environmental social media accounts
  • Writing web copy and other content for publication/website
  • Liaising with colleagues, media, external stakeholders and others
  • Developing and maintaining the communications and marketing strategy
  • Commissioning work from external branding and web contractors, as and when required.
  • Working with sales colleagues to develop external marketing campaigns
  • Occasionally assisting at industry events, including with presentation preparation.
